Attorney General Scott Pruitt of Oklahoma, speaking at the 2016 Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland.
Scott Pruitt is a climate-change denier and bedfellow of polluter lobbyists.
President-elect Trump’s nomination of Scott Pruitt, a climate-change denier and bedfellow of polluter lobbyists, to head the Environmental Protection Agency is an attack on the right of all Americans to safe, breathable air and drinkable clean water.
Mr. Trump must retract this announcement or the Senate should reject the nomination. Tell your senator to reject this nomination and demand a nominee who will protect all Americans’ right to a safe and healthy environment.
Pruitt boasts about leading the charge against pollution limits on toxic substances like soot and mercury that put us all at risk for increased cancer, childhood asthma and other health problems. He falsely claims that fracking doesn’t contaminate drinking water supplies.
The EPA is responsible for dictating national air quality standards and regulating discharges of pollutants into water bodies to protect people and the environment. The more stringent the standards, the cleaner the air we breathe and the water we drink.
Instead, Pruitt has been part of a secretive, coordinated national corporate campaign to undo the federal pollution protections that are supposed to keep our air and water clean. In exchange, he has received nearly $315,000 from the fossil fuel industry since 2002.
We deserve better than this.
Americans were divided on many issues in last month’s election, but no one voted for toxic air; no one voted for toxic water.
- The head of the EPA should be working to ensure that our air is clean to breathe and our water is safe to drink, not to ensure that polluters make more money.
- Urge your senator to protect the health of our communities by rejecting Scott Pruitt’s nomination.
Thank you for all that you do,

Donald Trump’s EPA Nominee Has a Deeply Troubling Record on Climate Change and the Environment
Trump Nominates Scott Pruitt for EPA
Urge your senators to carefully vet Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt before voting on his nomination as head of EPA.
President-elect Donald Trump today named Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head up the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — and that’s very troubling.
Pruitt is a strong ally of the fossil fuel industry, he has a long record of hostility toward the EPA, and he is leading the charge in the federal lawsuit to kill the Clean Power Plan, President Obama’s signature climate change initiative to reduce pollution from power plants.
But like all cabinet appointees, Trump’s nomination of Scott Pruitt must still be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, so it’s absolutely crucial that your senators hear from you today.
Tell your U.S. senators that you’re deeply concerned about Pruitt’s nomination and what it means for our environment, our climate, our communities and the future of the EPA itself.
What we already know now about Pruitt is alarming:
He called established science on climate change “speculative guesswork”
As Oklahoma’s Attorney General, he’s suing the EPA to weaken lifesaving clean air standards and protections for drinking water supplies for 117 million Americans
He’s taken hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Big Oil and Big Coal, and has shown time and time again that he’ll put the interests of his big polluter allies over the health and safety of our families and the American public.
When the American people voted in November, they did not vote to unleash more toxic pollution, rampant fossil fuel development and dangerous climate change. But Trump’s nomination of Pruitt to run the EPA is like hiring a fox to guard the henhouse.
Contact your senators now and demand that they hold Scott Pruitt accountable for his record before any votes to confirm him are held. That means asking him the tough questions that every American should want answered.
Qualified EPA administrators should accept the science behind climate change. They should believe in the importance of the bedrock environmental laws that protect us from air pollution, water pollution and toxic chemicals. And they should not have a long history of attacking and undermining the very agency they will manage.
Unfortunately, Pruitt appears to fail on these counts.
Urge your senators to demand full accountability of Pruitt before any votes are taken on his nomination.
One of the most solemn duties Trump will soon take on as president will be to enforce the laws we all depend on to protect our environment, our health and our children’s future. With Scott Pruitt, Trump is sounding the alarm that he will shirk those responsibilities. So please act now.
