Excerpt from: Tammy Baldwin for Senate
Last week, I urged the NBA to do the right thing and denounce HB2, North Carolina’s discriminatory new anti-LGBT law, by pulling its plans to host its 2017 All-Star game from the state.
The league just followed through. NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, said he intends to take the All-Star game out of North Carolina unless the law is repealed.
HB2 strips anti-discrimination protections from members of the LGBT community and discriminates against transgender individuals. It perpetuates inequality and it’s backwards.
The NBA’s decision was a step in the right direction, but we can’t stop fighting until HB2 is repealed in full. Add your name in support of inclusivity and progress.
I’ve always been honest and proud about who I am, as a member of the LGBT community, as a Wisconsinite, and as an American who believes we all deserve fairness.
Whether it’s economic fairness for working class families, fairness for women in the face of restrictions on their access to health care, or fairness for groups who face discrimination — I will never stop pushing for equality.
Despite the progress we’ve made over the last few decades, what happened in North Carolina is an example of why we have to stay engaged and keep our grassroots activism strong.
There will always be people who seek to take us backwards, but I believe compassion, tolerance, and equality will always win out. Add your name to show Republicans you won’t stand for discrimination.
